The University of Silesia in Opava (Slezská univerzita v Opavě) is one of the youngest universities in the Czech Republic. It is a full member of the European University Association and belongs to the top five universities established after 1989. Since its inception in 1991, the university has provided students with comprehensive education in the field of mathematics, physics, history, literature, languages, economics, gastronomy, pedagogy, healthcare, public administration, and the arts. Currently, the University of Silesia in Opava has three faculties: the Faculty of Philosophy and Science in Opava, the School of Business Administration in Karviná, the Faculty of Public Policy in Opava - and two university institutes: the Institute of Mathematics in Opava and the Institute of Physics in Opava. All these universities offer dozens of undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs, as well as lifelong learning and the activities of the University of the Third Age. The university is also the seat of the Institute of Creative Photography.
Karviná School of Business Administration (SBA) is a faculty of the University with approximately 2,000 students (full-time and part-time) and 80 teachers. The SBA offers 3-year Bachelor's, 2-year Masters and 4-year PhD studies. Master's and PhD studies in Economics and Business Management are also conducted entirely in English. Fields of study include Economics and Management, Marketing, Digital Business, Finance and Accounting, Tourism, Managerial Informatics, Social Service Management, Banking, Public Economy and Administration, Innovative Entrepreneurship, and more. In cooperation with the statutory city of Karviná, SBA runs the Business Gate business support center.
