PhD Michał Piętal – new assistant professor at Department of Complex Systems

An alumnus of the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics, University of Warsaw (mathematics, MSc) and the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw (biology, PhD).  The thesis “Novel bioinformatics methods and tools for the analysis of intra- and inter-molecular contacts in proteins, nucleic acids and their complexes” (with doctoral protocol conducted in Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics, PAS, defence in 2013) was written under the supervision of prof. Janusz M. Bujnicki.

 Since 1993, with short breaks, inseparably bound to the IT&T sector; with the roles both technical (developer, systems analyst, specialist) and business (sales engineer, business development manager).  He was also having CxO roles three times, in the high-tech start-up companies in an IT&T sector.

 An alumnus of the Executive Doctor of Business Administration programme (Institute of Economics, PAS), a PG study: Intellectual property law (Faculty Law and Administration, UW) and another PG study: Management of R&D system in research units.  Certified Business Intelligence Professional, his vocational specialty is BigData, Data Science and AI.  He also holds other non-technical IT&T credentials: ITIL and TOGAF.

 After the defence of his PhD, a collaborator (twice) of the Laboratory of Functional and Structural Genomics, managed by Dariusz M. Plewczynski, DSc, in Centre of New Technologies, University of Warsaw (years: 2014-2015 and 2017-2019).  An author of scientific publications from the disciplines: bioinformatics and IP law, also an author of a patent.  External expert of the National Centre for Research and Development.  Member of Polish Bioinformatics Society and Polish Economic Society.

 In his free time, he devotes himself to his passions: SF movies, Amiga retro-computers and mountaineering.
