In the proceedings of the conference "International Conference on Intelligent Software Methodologies, Tools, and Techniques SOMET 2022" the article „Efficiency of REST and gRPC realizing communication tasks in microservice-based ecosystems” was published (according to the list of MEiN 70 points). Co-authors of the article include employees of the Department: Marek Bolanowski, PhD, and Andrzej Paszkiewicz, PhD. A paper presenting the results of the work contained in the above-mentioned article was presented at the conference by Marek Bolanowski, PhD.
The purpose of the paper is to analyze the practical aspects of using REST API and gRPC to perform communication tasks in application ecosystems built on microservices. On the basis of the experiments conducted, classes of communication tasks were established for which a particular technology more efficiently performs data transfer. This, in turn, made it possible to formulate criteria for the selection of appropriate communication methods for tasks performed in a given distributed system.
The results of the work published in the article are the effect of joint research work conducted by Marek Bolanowski, PhD, and Andrzej Paszkiewicz, PhD, with employees of the Institute of Systems Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Communications Department of the Universitat Politècnica de València, (Spain).
